It's NBA All-Star Weekend in the city I live.  I actually don't intend on going downtown this weekend and get caught in the crowd.  However, I am staying aware for networking opportunities. An opportunity presented itself Friday night.  I hooked up with my boy Bo Kimble who came to town for the events. Bo and I were teammates at Loyola-Marymount.  Loyola is still the highest scoring Division I basketball team in NCAA history. Mr. Kimble had the juice and was able to gain me access to an exclusive, invite only, drop your car off and take the shuttle to the event, event. This is dedicated to Bo Love, you still got it.

This video was produced by Cheech & Chong.  I think C & C had insight to the basketball culture even before the annual parade of NBA players that get busted for possession of the Chronic!  Now, there are no racial undertones to this video.  The overemphasized physical characteristics of black folk is blatant.  However, this video or “short film” was made over 30 years ago in 1975.  It would be great to have a modern remix of this song.  Basketball's influence is far beyond the grips of the NBA and NCAA.  The game belongs to the streets.

AND1 celebrated 10 years in 2008. In 2005, AND1 made an estimated $150 million dollars. It were the brother's of the mixtape tour that made AND1 the brand IT WAS.  I don't know for sure, but I heard that taking all the tours together an AND1 contract could earn a baller $110,000.00 a year (if you know, please share). So, after generating hundreds of millions of dollars off of streetball, "the hood extreme sport," the owners sold off the company.  AND1 is now leveraging the brand in MMA. They admit its not logical. Regardless if its logical our not the decision to sponsor a MMA fighter instead of promoting another basketball player sends another message from the "basketball apparel brand'"

Is this a good business move?

The backboard is a crutch and has inhibited the natural progression and evolution of the original concept of basketball.  What if the backboard was never introduced to the game of basketball? What if over the last hundred years all the legends of the game both street and league superstars performed their athletic feats on hoops with no backboards? Why was the backboard ever introduced to the game? I know why, do you?
